How deep is the hole you are digging?

31 May 2009

How deep is the hole you are digging?Could life get more exciting for you? I’ve learnt two things recently which I wanted to share with you and this could help you get the inductive learnings which you might need to get. Did you wake up one day and realise the size of the hole you are digging for yourself? In life we get what we focus on the most and a lot of the time people concentrate so hard on the problem at hand, that they completely forget about the NOT problem.

What does this mean? Well, when you focus on debt, you’ll get debt. What is the not problem to debt? Well it’s all the other ways, choices and options you have of creating wealth in order to counteract the debt, but the focus is so directed at debt, it would seem that nothing else could be done.

As we progress in life, periodically we also get dragged down into the hole that other people have created. In fact we often all help each other dig the same hole even deeper. One day suddenly, one person finds a way to climb out of the hole, yet the others are always dragging that person back down again. Why does this happen? Well it would seem people are more comfortable knowing their friends are in the same predicament as they are, thus making everyone equal.
The moment someone starts to clamber out of the hole, it makes it all the more noticeable how deep the hole really is for those who are still locked inside the depths of the hole.

For those who do eventually manage to get out onto the top of the hole and back onto the outside, they should respect their reality has changed, but also respect that their peers are not accepting of their new reality and should allow them to adjust over time. In fact instead of rejoining then down in the hole when you want to say hang out with them again, you should be throwing them people down the hole, a life line and say “come up here and join me where it’s more enjoyable”.

As I have always said, people do not change people, change comes from within and happens at an unconscious level. Think of it like this, when you learn to drive a car, you have to consciously think about pushing down on the accelerator pedal to move the car forward. At some point as you get more and more experienced at driving, you stop thinking about that pedal action and you just do it. You didn’t one day wake up and say to yourself, “I think today I am going to start unconsciously pressing the pedal down to accelerate the car”.

No, it happened in your unconscious mind. All change happens this way. In fact all change, all behaviour and all learnings happen at the unconscious level.

The other thing I wanted to share with you is the idea that every issue has a simple answer or solution. This might be the case in some issues, but there are often deeper underlying issues at cause which when revealed in the brightest light, will make solving the issue much easier.

Sometimes it does hurt to go so far into the depths of the mind to find answers, but in the end when you have found the answers and have taken the positive learnings from it, you’ll be in a much stronger position.

The point I’m trying to make is that sometimes things are not as trivial as they first seem, and even the smallest change can make the biggest and most profound difference in a person’s life.
