Is your life a soap Drama yet?

25 April 2009

Is your life a soap Drama yet? What is the definition of a soap drama? Well, the term has been described as the more naturalistic, unglamorous primetime drama serials such as East Enders or Coronation Street. What differentiates these types of dramas from other television programs is the open-ended nature of the narrative with stories which can span several episodes.

In language, the phrase “soap opera” is also used as a metaphor that can be applied to any situation, real or imagined, that appears to be overly laced with emotion and contains what appear to be unlikely dramatic twists.

Quite often people are glued for periods of time to their television sets, emotionally attached to the outcome of a particularly gripping storyline. It’s as if the lives of these characters provide them with more emotionally fulfilment than anything in their own lives!

Wake up and be the lead character in your own soap.

Life is an emotional journey from the very first feelings of joy or anger, come the rollercoaster of emotional ups and downs which make up our experience of life.
If you ever sit down and remember something from the past, you’ll soon realise that the events which are furthest in the past, which still remain clear, are those which were the most emotional of that time.

In fact in the area of relationships, emotion plays an important role. Right from an early age, both men and women fantasize about their ideal partners, creating great stories in their imaginations about their fantasy partner, driving incredible amounts of emotion towards that goal of finding someone who might fit that ideology. Imagine the amount of emotional content is involved.

The more you relate to someone, the more you build that important connection which may ultimately form the pair bond in which you feel that comfort that something more substantial could come of that relationship.

So it’s true, emotional content gives us great driving energy towards that which we seek in terms of finding love.

However, how many people attach that same emotion to other goals in their lives. Career goals, financial goals, personal goals or any other achievements.

Positive emotion is the energy that drives us towards that which we most want.
Negative emotion is the energy which drives us away from that which we most want.

It’s a very simple notion, but nonetheless most people fail to attach enough positive emotion to their goals in order to achieve massive success in them.
I’m going to teach you one tool here which will help you massively to discover your goals and attach even more emotion to them, so that you can achieve everything you want in life.

If for example you have a goal, “by September 2010 I want to own 5 properties”, how much emotion is really attached to this statement?
The way I like to teach people to set goals, is to visualize what achieve the end goal would mean for you!

Instead of that statement above, I would word it “it is now September 2010 and I’m feeling over the moon as I have just exchanged contracts for my 5th property. I can feel this air of freedom, success and achievement which enables me to enjoy more time for myself and provide me with some additional financial security.”

What I’ve done there is to attach a lot of emotional results from the achievement of the goal. This is one way to drive more energy towards those goals of yours. So go back to your goals list, and see how you can re-write your goals to contain more emotion and more details about what it really is, you are trying to achieve by attaining the goal.

Focus on your feelings, the visual of how it would happen, any sounds which you might hear and perhaps even what you say to yourself after achieving it.
Today’s video is an interview with the prolific Olympic gold medal winner Ian Thorpe. He speaks about how he selects and sets goals.
